Could a new thumb implant beat standard surgery for arthritis pain?
NCT ID NCT07178223
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study tests whether replacing the arthritic thumb joint with an artificial implant provides better long-term pain relief and hand function than standard bone-removal surgery. Researchers will follow 90 people receiving the implant and compare them to 90 similar patients from an earlier trial who had standard surgery. The goal is to see if the implant offers lasting benefits despite higher risks like implant loosening.
