Could a common infection hold clues to mental health diagnosis?

NCT ID NCT07346833

Summary

This study aims to see if tiny molecules in the blood, called microRNAs, can help doctors tell the difference between specific mental health conditions like schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorder in women who also have a common, long-term infection called toxoplasmosis. Researchers will compare blood samples from 55 women with these conditions, some with the infection and some without, to look for patterns. The goal is to find better biological markers to improve diagnosis and understand how the infection might affect mental health.
