First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study compares two treatments for infected baby molars in children aged 3 to 8: a less invasive method using a triple antibiotic paste (lesion sterilization and tissue repair) versus a standard root canal with a calcium hydroxide-iodoform paste. The goal is to see which approach better relieves pain, swelling, and infection, and leads to healthier teeth on X-rays. The trial involves 74 children and is currently active but not recruiting.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
triple antibiotic paste (lesion sterilization and tissue repair) and calcium hydroxide-iodoform paste (root canal treatment)
What this could lead to
If successful, the antibiotic paste method could offer a simpler, less invasive alternative to standard root canals for treating infected baby teeth in children.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 74 children, so results may not apply to everyone. The antibiotic paste might not work as well as the standard treatment, and there is a risk of allergic reactions or treatment failure.
