Dental breakthrough? simple shield may stop jawbone shrinkage after tooth pull

NCT ID NCT07231874

Summary

This study tested whether placing a thin, protective bone shield after a tooth is pulled helps prevent the jawbone from shrinking. Forty patients had a tooth extracted and were randomly assigned to either receive the shield or heal normally. Researchers measured bone width and height six months later using 3D scans to see if the shield helped preserve more bone for a future dental implant.
