Tonsil abscess study: surgery vs. simple drainage
NCT ID NCT04543708
First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at two ways to treat a tonsillar abscess (a pocket of pus in the tonsil) in adults. One method was removing the tonsils (tonsillectomy), and the other was draining the pus under local anesthesia. The goal was to see which treatment works better to clear the infection and prevent it from coming back. The study was stopped early, so results are limited.
