New eye implant could slow vision loss from dry AMD

NCT ID NCT07668804

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a biodegradable eye implant called TO-O-1007 for geographic atrophy, a form of advanced dry age-related macular degeneration that causes blind spots. The implant slowly releases medication over 6 months to slow disease progression. About 31 adults aged 50 and older will receive either a low-dose, high-dose, or sham injection to evaluate safety and early effectiveness.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
TO-O-1007 implant
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a treatment that slows vision loss from geographic atrophy with fewer injections.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase trial with only 31 people, so safety and effectiveness are not yet proven. The implant may not slow disease progression or could cause side effects.
