New combo therapy aims to wake up the brain after stroke
NCT ID NCT07228871
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding a type of brain stimulation (called continuous theta burst stimulation) to mirror therapy can improve hemispatial neglect in people who have had a stroke. Neglect means the brain ignores one side of the world, often the left. Twenty-two stroke survivors will receive either mirror therapy alone or mirror therapy plus brain stimulation for two weeks. Researchers will measure changes in daily life awareness and basic activities.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and mirror therapy
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a new, non-drug way to help stroke survivors regain awareness of their left side, improving daily function.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early study with only 22 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment is short (2 weeks) and benefits may not last.
