Could a 3-Day TMS course ease functional seizures?

NCT ID NCT07059325

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This early study tests whether an accelerated form of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is feasible and tolerable for people with functional seizures (also called psychogenic non-epileptic seizures). Thirty adults will receive up to 30 TMS sessions over 3–5 days, targeting the left prefrontal cortex. Researchers will measure how many complete the treatment, track side effects, and monitor seizure frequency and quality of life at 4 weeks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a fast, non-drug treatment to reduce functional seizures and improve quality of life.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small, open-label trial with no placebo group. Results may not prove effectiveness, and side effects like headache or dizziness are possible.
