First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tested a communication approach called time-limited trials (TLTs) for 209 critically-ill patients with advanced medical illnesses. Doctors and families agreed on a set period to try ICU treatments and then check if the patient improved. The goal was to see if this method could reduce the length and intensity of treatments that offer little benefit, without increasing deaths.
