Could a shrinking thyroid make surgery riskier?
NCT ID NCT06896513
Summary
This study aimed to see if having a thin thyroid gland is linked to more difficulty placing a breathing tube during surgery. Researchers observed 70 patients with hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) who were having surgery. They used ultrasound to measure thyroid thickness before surgery and then recorded how easy or hard it was for the anesthesiologist to place the breathing tube.
