First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looked at 120 adults having their entire thyroid gland removed (total thyroidectomy). It compared two surgical techniques: using a special device called LigaSure versus the traditional method of tying knots. The goal was to see which approach causes fewer injuries to the nerve that controls the voice. Researchers measured how often voice nerve injury happened while patients were still in the hospital.
