New nerve block combo could cut opioid use after thyroid surgery
NCT ID NCT07274670
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 24, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether adding dexmedetomidine to a standard nerve block (superficial cervical plexus block) improves pain control after thyroid surgery. Fifty-eight adults undergoing thyroid surgery were randomly assigned to receive the nerve block with or without dexmedetomidine. The main goal was to see how long it took before patients needed pain medication and how much opioid painkiller they used in the first 24 hours.
