Thyroid thickness may predict intubation trouble
NCT ID NCT06896513
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 37 times
Summary
This study looked at 220 adults with treated hypothyroidism to see if the thickness of the thyroid isthmus (the bridge connecting the two thyroid lobes) could predict difficulty placing a breathing tube during general anesthesia. Researchers measured the isthmus with ultrasound before surgery and compared it to standard difficulty scores. The goal is to help anesthesiologists better prepare for challenging airways in this patient group.
