Thyroid cancer surgery debate: to remove or not to remove neck nodes?
NCT ID NCT06899347
First seen May 05, 2026 ยท Last updated May 05, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether removing central neck lymph nodes during thyroid cancer surgery can lower the chance of cancer coming back in patients with 2-4 cm tumors. About 392 adults with papillary thyroid cancer and no signs of spread will be randomly assigned to have the extra node removal or not. The goal is to see if the added surgery improves long-term outcomes without causing more complications.
