NCT ID NCT03858946

First seen May 06, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study compared two common surgeries for severe thumb osteoarthritis: simple trapeziectomy (removing a small bone) and the Weilby procedure (removing the bone plus reconstructing a ligament). Sixty adults who had not improved with non-surgical treatments were randomly assigned to one of the two surgeries. The goal was to see which approach better reduces pain and improves hand function and movement.
