Summary
This study compared two common surgeries for severe thumb base arthritis: a simple removal of a small bone (trapeziectomy) versus that removal plus a ligament reconstruction (Weilby procedure). Sixty adults with thumb osteoarthritis who had not improved with non-surgical treatments took part. The goal was to see if one surgery provides better pain relief and hand function than the other.
