Could salt water be better than steroids for thumb arthritis?

NCT ID NCT06401317

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests whether a simple saline (salt water) injection works as well as a corticosteroid shot for thumb arthritis pain. Forty adults with thumb arthritis will receive either a steroid or saline injection, and neither they nor their doctor will know which. The goal is to see if saline, which is cheaper and has fewer side effects, can provide similar pain relief and improve hand function.
