Thumb arthritis showdown: new joint implant vs. traditional surgery
NCT ID NCT07569549
First seen May 16, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026
Summary
This study compares two surgical treatments for thumb base arthritis: a newer total joint replacement (TOUCH prosthesis) and the standard trapeziectomy (removing a small bone). About 84 adults aged 40-80 with moderate arthritis will be randomly assigned to one surgery. Researchers will measure grip strength, pain, complications, and cost-effectiveness over 10 years to see which method works better.
