New drug could save limbs without surgery in major trial

NCT ID NCT05372718

First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests whether a clot-dissolving drug called Fortelyzin® can save limbs as well as emergency surgery in people with acute limb ischemia—a sudden blockage of blood flow to a leg. About 170 adults with moderate-to-severe ischemia will receive either the drug directly into the clot or undergo standard surgical removal. The main goal is to see how many patients avoid amputation.
