First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This study tested whether a medicine called theophylline, combined with zinc tablets and smell training, could help people who lost their sense of smell after a head injury. 158 adults who had not improved with standard treatments took part. One group received theophylline plus zinc and smell training, while the other received only zinc and smell training. The study measured changes in smell identification and detection after 24 weeks.
