First seen Feb 22, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study compares two common medicines, sodium bicarbonate and THAM, used to treat metabolic acidosis (too much acid in the blood) during heart surgery. About 250 adults having heart surgery with a heart-lung machine will take part. The goal is to see if both drugs work equally well at correcting acid levels.
