New test aims to curb unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions

NCT ID NCT05762302

Summary

This study is testing whether a new blood test called MeMed BV can help doctors in emergency departments and urgent care centers make better decisions about prescribing antibiotics for suspected lower respiratory tract infections (like bronchitis or pneumonia). The goal is to see if using the test reduces unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions while still ensuring good patient outcomes. The study will enroll over 1,300 adult patients who come in with symptoms like cough, fever, and shortness of breath.
