Gentle exercise with blood flow cuff shows promise for tennis elbow

NCT ID NCT07351942

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether low-load exercise with blood flow restriction (BFR) can reduce pain and improve function in people with tennis elbow. 58 adults with recent tennis elbow did supervised exercises twice a week for six weeks, with either real or fake BFR. Researchers measured pain, grip strength, and tendon health using ultrasound to see if BFR adds extra benefit.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Low-load resistance training with blood flow restriction (BFR training)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a gentler exercise option for tennis elbow that speeds recovery without heavy weights.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 58 people. The sham group also exercised, so the added benefit of blood flow restriction may be small or none.
