Video calls race to save newborn brains in rural hospitals

NCT ID NCT03706417

Summary

This study tested whether using a video call system could help rural hospitals start a time-sensitive brain-cooling treatment faster for newborns who don't get enough oxygen during birth. The treatment, called therapeutic hypothermia, aims to reduce brain injury. Researchers compared how quickly treatment started for 35 babies using the video system versus similar babies treated before the system existed.
