Zapping the brain to heal after stroke: a new personalized approach
NCT ID NCT07599774
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests whether individually tailored, non-invasive brain stimulation (high-definition tDCS) can improve arm function in 16 chronic stroke survivors when combined with rehabilitation therapy. Participants will receive either real or sham stimulation alongside modified constraint-induced movement therapy over five sessions. The goal is to see if this personalized approach is feasible and reduces motor impairment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a non-invasive, personalized way to boost arm recovery after a stroke without drugs or surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study (16 people) testing feasibility, not effectiveness. The results may not apply to all stroke survivors, and the benefit over standard rehab is unproven.
