Ear zaps may rewire stroke brains – study reveals

NCT ID NCT07282106

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This completed study tested whether a mild electrical pulse on the ear (taVNS) can alter how brain regions talk to each other at rest. Researchers used a brain scanner (fNIRS) on 84 people — some who had a stroke over 6 months ago and some healthy volunteers. They compared real stimulation to a fake version to see if the ear zap truly changes brain connectivity.
