Researchers investigate mysterious paralysis after ICU breathing tubes

NCT ID NCT06033144

Summary

This study aims to find out how often Tapia's syndrome occurs in patients who had a breathing tube for more than 48 hours in intensive care. Tapia's syndrome is a rare condition that causes paralysis of the tongue and vocal cords, leading to voice and swallowing problems. Researchers will observe 247 patients in a specialized weaning unit to measure the prevalence and identify factors linked to this complication.
