Nerve block vs. muscle relaxant: which works better for laparoscopic surgery?

NCT ID NCT01628952

First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study compared two methods to relax the abdominal muscles during laparoscopic (keyhole) digestive surgery. One method uses a nerve block (TAP block) and the other uses a standard muscle relaxant (curare). The goal was to see which provides better muscle relaxation, measured by how much air is needed to inflate the abdomen. The study involved 60 adults aged 18-75 who were scheduled for this type of surgery.
