First seen Apr 21, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tested whether tagatose, a low-calorie sweetener, can improve blood sugar response and increase beneficial gut bacteria in healthy adults with slightly elevated blood sugar or insulin levels. Participants took tagatose or a placebo (sugar) for four weeks each. The goal was to see if tagatose acts as a prebiotic, helping good bacteria grow and improving how the body handles sugar.
