New malaria combo aims to wipe out hidden liver stage for good

Summary

This study tests whether combining the drug tafenoquine with different malaria treatments can cure Plasmodium vivax malaria and prevent it from returning for at least 6 months. About 300 adults in Thailand with uncomplicated P. vivax infection will receive one of several drug combinations. The goal is to find a more effective cure that eliminates the parasite from both the blood and the liver.
