New device aims to shield brain during artery procedure

Summary

This study tests a new device called SwitchGuard that is designed to catch debris and protect the brain during a procedure to open blocked carotid arteries in the neck. About 103 people at high risk for complications from standard surgery will be enrolled. The main goal is to see if the device reduces the risk of death, stroke, or heart attack within 30 days after the procedure.
