Shocking swallows: new patch aims to help ICU patients eat again
NCT ID NCT07529210
First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study tests if a mild electrical stimulation on the neck can improve swallowing in patients who have a tracheostomy (a tube in the throat) after being on a breathing machine for a long time. About 238 adults with swallowing problems will receive either standard care or standard care plus the electrical stimulation for 21 days. The goal is to see if the patch helps reduce swallowing difficulties and makes eating safer.
