Glowing dye lights up hidden tubes to prevent surgical accidents

NCT ID NCT05754333

Summary

This study tested a new fluorescent dye, ASP5354, to help surgeons see the ureter (the tube from kidney to bladder) more clearly during abdominal and pelvic surgeries. Accidental injury to this hidden tube is a rare but serious risk. The trial involved 107 people aged 12 and older who were having these types of surgeries. The main goal was to see if the dye, used with a special near-infrared camera, made the ureter easier to see than standard surgical lighting alone.
