Testing a machine to save more blood during surgery

NCT ID NCT05545930

Summary

This study aims to compare two methods for recovering blood from sponges used during heart and lung surgeries: manual wringing by hand versus using an automated suction device. Researchers will measure how well each method preserves red blood cells and how much blood can be recovered. The study involves 20 patients undergoing specific heart or lung procedures at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.
