Race to clear the chest: surgery vs. drugs in infection battle

NCT ID NCT04095676

Summary

This study aims to find the best way to treat a serious chest infection called pleural empyema. It will compare two common approaches: a minimally invasive surgery (VATS) versus inserting a drainage tube and using special drugs to break up the infection. The main goal is to see which treatment helps patients leave the hospital sooner and recover better.
