Popular Weight-Loss drugs may pose hidden surgery risk

NCT ID NCT06500143

Summary

This study looked at whether popular diabetes and weight-loss medications (called GLP-1 agonists) might leave too much food or liquid in a person's stomach before scheduled surgery, even if they stop the medication a week in advance as recommended. Researchers used a quick ultrasound scan to compare stomach contents in 94 people who were taking these drugs to those who were not. The goal was to gather information to improve safety guidelines for patients needing surgery.
