Arm and leg cuffs aim to shield organs in High-Risk heart surgery

NCT ID NCT07383909

Summary

This study is testing whether a simple, non-invasive technique can protect a patient's organs during emergency surgery for a torn aorta. The technique, called remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC), involves briefly inflating and deflating blood pressure cuffs on an arm and leg before surgery. Researchers will compare this to a sham procedure in 1,296 patients to see if it reduces serious complications like heart, brain, or kidney problems after the operation.
