Robots battle for best bowel surgery in rare childhood disease

NCT ID NCT07343622

Summary

This study compares two types of robotic-assisted bowel surgery for children with a severe form of Hirschsprung disease, a condition where nerves are missing in the large intestine. Researchers want to see which surgery—called the Duhamel or the Soave procedure—leads to better long-term bowel control and fewer serious infections after the operation. The trial will involve 50 children who have already had a temporary opening (ostomy) created as babies and are now ready for their final reconstructive surgery.
