First seen Dec 18, 2025 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 26 times
Summary
This study compares two surgical strategies for treating a type A aortic intramural hematoma, a serious condition where bleeding occurs within the aortic wall. About 400 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either a less extensive repair (ascending aorta replacement with or without hemiarch replacement) or a more extensive repair (ascending aorta replacement plus total arch replacement and frozen elephant trunk). The main goal is to see which approach reduces the need for additional procedures on the aorta within 6 to 12 months after surgery.
