New study aims to improve breathing treatment for premature babies

NCT ID NCT07176117

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looks at whether giving a natural lung medicine (surfactant) through a small tube placed above the vocal cords, along with standard breathing support (CPAP), helps late preterm and early term babies with breathing problems more than CPAP alone. About 422 newborns born between 33 and 39 weeks who need breathing help within 6 hours of birth will take part. The goal is to see if this gentler method reduces complications and hospital stays.
