New antibiotic combo tested in kids to fight superbug infections

NCT ID NCT06801223

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing an antibiotic called Sulbactam-Durlobactam in hospitalized children from birth to under 18 years old who have or may have an Acinetobacter infection. The goal is to find the right dose and check that it is safe. About 48 children will receive the drug through an IV at different schedules. This is an early-stage trial, so it focuses on how the drug moves through the body and any side effects, not yet on curing the infection.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Sulbactam-Durlobactam (an antibiotic combination)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a safe and effective antibiotic dosing regimen for children with hard-to-treat Acinetobacter infections.

What could go wrong

This is a very early phase 1b study with only 48 children, so it is primarily checking safety and drug levels, not yet proving the drug works. Side effects are possible, and the results may not apply to all children.
