First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This pilot study tested a suicide prevention program called BESST for rural veterans who recently received mental health care outside the VA. Twenty veterans were randomly assigned to either standard care or standard care plus BESST, which included a one-hour education session and seven follow-up check-ins. Researchers measured suicidal thoughts and hopelessness over three months to see if the extra support helped.
