First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests a suicide prevention training program called GTK-UNI for university students in Spain. About 420 students will either take the training right away or wait and take it later. The program teaches how to spot warning signs, talk to someone in distress, and connect them to help. Researchers will check if the training improves students' knowledge, attitudes, and willingness to intervene.

What this could lead to
If effective, this program could become a widely used tool to train university students to recognize warning signs and help peers at risk of suicide.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with 420 participants, and results may not apply to all universities or cultures. The program requires time and commitment, and its long-term impact on actual suicide rates is not yet known.
