First seen Nov 12, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tested a simple idea: sending caring letters to people for six months after they leave jail. The goal was to see if these letters help them reconnect with healthcare and lower their risk of suicide. Over 45,000 adults in Ohio who were on Medicaid took part. The letters were meant to show support and encourage people to seek help if needed.
