Could a simple sugar shield kids after transplant?
NCT ID NCT04263597
Summary
This study tested if a special sugar called 2'-fucosyllactose (2FL), given as an oral supplement, could help protect the gut in children and young adults receiving a bone marrow transplant. The goal was to see if the supplement could reduce harmful gut bacteria, lower inflammation, and potentially decrease serious complications like graft-versus-host disease and bloodstream infections. Researchers enrolled 70 patients to check the supplement's safety and its effects on gut health markers.
