Surgery drug may shorten hospital stays by speeding bowel recovery

NCT ID NCT05985343

Summary

This study tested if a drug called sugammadex, used to reverse muscle relaxants after surgery, helps patients' bowels start working again sooner after major hernia repair. Researchers compared it to the standard drug in 184 adults having open abdominal wall reconstruction. The main goal was to see if patients could pass stool and eat solid food faster, potentially reducing hospital stays and complications like severe constipation (ileus).
