Gentle therapy may boost movement in preemies
NCT ID NCT06648213
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a gentle, individual therapy program helps early premature babies (born before 34 weeks) improve their motor skills while in the neonatal intensive care unit. Thirty infants received short sessions of positioning, gentle movement, and sensory stimulation three times a week from 34 to 36 weeks. Researchers measured changes in general movements and neurological exams to see if the therapy supports development.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
individual structured physiotherapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a simple therapy to support motor development in premature infants.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, completed study with only 30 infants, so results may not apply to all premature babies. It does not test a drug or device, so impact is limited.
