New feeding tube study aims to help stroke patients swallow sooner

NCT ID NCT07386834

Summary

This study aims to find out if one type of feeding tube helps stroke patients recover their swallowing ability faster and better than another common type. It will involve 422 adults who have had a recent stroke and need a feeding tube because they have trouble swallowing. Researchers will randomly assign patients to receive either an oro-esophageal tube (placed through the mouth) or a nasogastric tube (placed through the nose) for two weeks, then follow them for four more weeks to see which method leads to quicker and safer improvement.
