New heart procedure combo tested to stop strokes in atrial fibrillation patients

NCT ID NCT07453940

Summary

This study is testing whether adding a newer type of heart rhythm treatment (pulsed field ablation) to a standard stroke-prevention procedure (left atrial appendage closure) works better than the standard procedure alone. It involves 50 adults with a persistent, irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation) who are at high risk for stroke but have only mild symptoms. Researchers will measure changes in exercise capacity, brain blood flow, and quality of life over 6 months to see which approach is more effective.
