Home stretching device may prevent second knee surgery

NCT ID NCT07454356

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a home stretching device to standard physical therapy helps people regain knee bending after total knee replacement. About 150 adults with limited knee motion will either use the device daily plus attend therapy, or do therapy alone. Researchers will track knee flexibility, pain, and daily function for up to two years to see if the device reduces the need for a second surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Hydraulic high-intensity stretch device (Ermi Knee Flexionater)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could help people regain knee movement after replacement and reduce the need for a second surgery to fix stiffness.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small, early-stage trial. The device may not provide significant benefit over physical therapy alone, and results may not apply to all patients.
